Freud and the Question of Civilization

A lecture on Freud cultural writings and their relevance to contemporary social life. The lecture will explore Freud texts on civilization, religion, war and group psychology, examining how they illuminate current tensions between individual desire and collective demands. Special attention will be given to the concepts of the superego, sublimation and the death drive as they relate to cultural formations.
